There’s a documentary on Woodstock 99 on Netflix. Worth watching if anyone is into this kind of stuff.

I had Motorola flip phone in 1993. Definitely had a Motorola Startac in 1999. There were absolutely phones there. Hell, I live about 45 minutes away. I thought about going. Would have absolutely brought my phone. Thankfully I decided against going.

Poor imitation of the original

omg imagine actually watching the show instead of recording everything on your phone.. kinda miss that vibe tbh.

It should be noted that the 99 festival was in most ways the opposite of the one in 69. I can better the Wikipedia description:
“The festival was marred by sexual harassment and rapes, difficult environmental conditions, overpriced food and water, poor sanitation, rioting, looting, vandalism, arson, violence, and three deaths, leading to media attention and controversy that vastly overshadowed coverage of the musical performances”

It was the best of times. It was the blurst of times.

I was there but only for the first night. Had to leave to go on a family vacation that I promised my parents I wouldn’t miss if they let me go to Woodstock.
I watched that doc a few months ago, and I am so grateful that I left after the first night because who knows what kind of dumb things 19 y/o me would have got swept up in that 44 y/o me would deeply regret. (For the record, I’m talking about the vandalism, not the sexual abuse)
My lasting memory of Woodstock 99 was the goddamn price of water. And how much walking I did and the poor choice of footwear I had made

That was not what I expected to hear when I unmuted

Woodstock 99 was a wonderfully horrible experience. I felt like a refugee with no idea of when I’d escape

No phones just ten dollar water and sexual assault

Well see we didn’t have smartphones in 1999. However I did have a pager.

Its still insane to me that 17 year old me was there, right at the front of the pit.

No phones but plenty of raping.

Old School Cool??? A bunch of destructive, raging rapists. Nothing cool about that.

No phones but tons of sewage that people rolled around in thinking it was mud.

Sure there are no phones but there are plenty of people taking pictures. I think we just need to find that happy medium again. Go ahead and snap a few pictures but then put the phone/camera away and enjoy the show.

Ah yes. A time where everyone could contract e coli and not be able to google the symptoms. I want to go back to that.
